Gartner, a global research and advisory firm, which is specialized in providing insight to the businesses recently revealed five distinct emerging technology trends that would generate new experience and business models to the individuals and corporations, as well as making an impact to the society as a whole.
As innovation has become the key competitive advantage, the pace in revolutionary shift continues to gain accelerated momentum with the help of emerging technologies. Gartner has announced five new emerging technology trends that can create an impact on businesses and society.
- Sensing and Mobility
Sensing technologies are a core component of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the vast amount of data collected. Utilizing intelligence enable the ability to gain many type of insights that can be applied to many scenarios.
AI assisted sensor technologies will help us obtain a better understanding of the environment surrounding them, hence enabling mobility.
Use cases:
3D sensing cameras will create revolutionary data and accomplish that we have our digital twin universe in a few decade. Intelligent automation will help sensor technology to understand the mass data collected from surroundings, which will generate new business models for monetization for autonomous vehicles, marketing and logistics.
- Augmented Human
Augmented human advance enable creation of cognitive and physical improvements as an integral part of the human body. Augmented human will extend natural human performance into super human.
An example of this is the ability to provide super human capabilities such as the creation of limb prosthetics.
Use cases:
Biochip technology will aid individuals to track their record with predictive maintenance similar to what we have seen in the manufacture industry. Personification and prosthetics will add an additional capability to the human body enhance mobility. Emotion AI, and augmented intelligence will facilitate our decision-making and actions.
- Postclassical Compute and Comms
Thanks to Moore’s Law, computing and communication technologies made rapid advancement with faster, cheaper, smaller CPU’s for computing performance. These capabilities are reinforced with conventional infrastructure.
The new generation of computing is node based distributed, or already moved to cloud for greater capabilities.
Use Cases:
Low earth orbit (LEO) satellites can provide low latency internet connectivity globally. These constellations of small satellites will enable connectivity for the 48% of homes that are currently not connected, providing new opportunities for economic growth for unserved countries and regions.
- Digital Ecosystems
Digital ecosystems leverage an interdependent group of actors (enterprises, people and things) sharing digital platforms to achieve a mutually beneficial purpose. Digitalization has facilitated the deconstruction of classical value chains, leading to stronger, more flexible and resilient webs of value delivery that are constantly morphing to create new improved products and services.
Use Cases:
Blockchain based digital ecosystems are now in rise to disrupt silo based other ecosystems (physical and/or digital), provided value based services in addition to establishing trust and convenience.
- Advanced AI and Analytics
Cultivating too much data creates another emerging technology’s path to be a trend: Analytics and AI. Advanced analytics comprise of autonomous or semi-autonomous examination of data or content using sophisticated techniques and tools, typically beyond those of traditional business intelligence (BI).
Use Cases:
As we currently observe many practices around us, the future of this trend is hidden under edge analytics (mostly for latency sensitive use cases) and explainable AI (XAI) for more transparent rules to monitor for black box decisions made by bots.
